As of recent I feel like I have been inundated by articles obsessed with the morning ritual of warm lemon water. It seemed so faddish to me that I generally ignored the craze, until I did some research. Turns out lemons have some pretty amazing properties, which is great because I love their energetic zing and citrus flavour in my tea. Lemons flush out toxins and help strengthen the liver; They are great for skin, and prevent wrinkles and acne; And are a great source of potassium, calcium, vitamin C, and magnesium.
Personally, I’m obsessed with honey, I could probably eat it by the spoonful. Honey can soothe coughs just as well as cough medicines, and also alleviates histamine related allergies. It’s a natural and unprocessed sugar that provides you with a quick boost of energy (so forget the coffee). And it helps the body to better absorb calcium, which enhances memory and brain health.
Although, if you are vegan or just want to be more bee friendly, you can sweeten with maple syrup, or stevia, or not at all.
We also have a separate article that goes into length about all of the health benefits of ginger here.
So here is my recipe for the perfect detox tea:
• 1 tablespoon – Finely grated ginger (more or less to taste)
• Juice from half a lemon
• 2 cups – Water • Honey (or your choice of sweetener)
1. Put the water and ginger on the stove and cook for about 10 minutes on medium heat 2. Strain and add lemon juice
3. Pour into cups and sweeten to taste
Switch it up from time to time by adding in a cinnamon stick, mint leaves, cardamom, or a green tea bag!
